Privacy policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

The short version. We collect only what the course needs to work: your email address to sign you in, and your learning progress so you can pick up where you left off. Text you write or dictate for correction is sent to our AI provider to be corrected. Voice recordings stay on your device. We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.

Who we are

Francora ("we", "us") is an independent online French course for people preparing for the TCF Canada and TEF Canada, operated from Ontario, Canada. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].

What we collect and why

InformationWhy we need it
Your email addressTo create your account and sign you in with a one-time link. We also use it for important messages about your account. We don't send marketing emails unless you choose to receive them.
Your learning progress: chapters done, quiz and exercise results, flashcard reviews, your study plan and exam date, your placement and checkpoint resultsTo build your plan, track your progress and bring back the right review cards.
Text you write or dictate for correction (writing tasks, speaking answers, chats with Claire, the AI tutor) and the corrections you receiveTo correct your French, estimate your level and fill your personal mistake notebook. Some of your answers and corrections are kept in your progress so you can review them.
Basic technical data: browser type, pages loaded, error logs, the number of AI requests you make each dayTo keep the service secure and working, and to apply fair-use limits.

We don't ask for your immigration file, your passport, your exam registration number or your scores from official exams, and we ask you not to type them into the course.

Your voice

When you record a spoken answer, the recording stays in your browser on your own device so you can listen back. It isn't uploaded to us. If you use the "speak and see your words" feature, your browser's own speech recognition service turns your voice into text: in Chrome that service is run by Google, in Edge by Microsoft, under their own privacy policies. Only the resulting text reaches us, and only if you submit it for correction.

Content created for everyone

Lessons, word lists, example sentences, practice exercises and mock-exam questions created by the course are saved and shared with all learners. They contain no personal information. Your own answers, corrections and progress are private to your account.

Who processes your data for us

We use a small number of trusted service providers. They act on our instructions and may store or process data outside Canada, mainly in the United States.

Data stored outside Canada may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of those countries.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and progress while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and progress within 30 days, except where we must keep some records by law (for example, payment records for tax purposes).

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent, which means closing your account. Write to [email protected]; we answer within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

Your data travels over encrypted connections. Your progress is protected so that only your account can read it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to remember settings such as your study plan on this device. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

Francora is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account.

Changes

If we make important changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
